Halloween has been and gone. The beautiful Autumn colours are slowly disappearing. The paths are getting filled with soggy leaves, and our nights are getting longer. It’s time to get your home ready for winter.
Today I would like to help inspire you with interior design tips and lovely cosy accessories that you can add to your home to make you feel good. Most of you will be spending more time at home or opting for nights with friends and family. So here are some suggestions and recommendations on how to create a cosy home that won’t break the bank. These lovely ideas will still leave you plenty of pennies to spend on Chanukah and Christmas presents.
Where to shop to get your home ready for winter.
I love to take a trip out to the high street and there are beautiful shops where I love to go looking for accessories on a weekly basis. I am a sucker for accessories and love to see what’s new in the shops. Here are some of my favourite picks where I recommend you shop to get your home ready for winter. Homesense is a favourite as they have new stock in every single day. I also love John Lewis, Zara Home and H&M Home. Catch me on my Instagram stories to see where I’m shopping this week. Here are some more beautiful places I recommend you shop to get your home ready for winter.
Throws
Let’s start with throws. Throws are the perfect accessory to get your home ready for winter. Not only are they’re inexpensive but you can change them up with every new season. I am not saying throw everything out each season. Always have sustainability in mind and buy quality items which will last as well as outlive the latest trends. However, it’s good to declutter once in a while and don’t forget to recycle through your local charity shop or Facebook marketplace!
Lighting
Get your home ready for winter and entertaining. When I entertain people for dinner, I do love to put in some effort and decorate my dining table. I love having different heights of candlesticks. It adds interest to a table and brings a warm glow to your evening.
Lamps
When it comes to these long nights and shorter days, we do need different kinds of lighting throughout the house. But today I’ll talk about the room you entertain in. If it is your open plan kitchen or your cosy living room you need to have a variety of lighting. Lighting also brings drama to any living room. Carefully chosen statement lightly, whether it’s a classic or an oversized pendant or floor light it will have impact lit or unlit.
If you have bookshelves then adding a small light brings a different dimension and helps with styling your shelves and also it adds a lovely glow to the books.
Floor lights
Floor lights bring a different dimension to the room. It brings a new mood and energy that can be sexy or alternatively calming and for quiet reading too. It depends on what you are looking for.
In my home, I have a floor light that brings the mood of the house to a more peaceful, end of the day feel. After dinner, I always turn it on, and as well as this when we all leave the house in the evening, then I also leave it on.
I’m quite a fan of Habitat and here’s a floor light which I love. Simple, without fuss and adds a lovely glow to the room.
So there we go folks, I hope these ideas will give you some inspiration on how to add warmth and character to your home. If you do need a little help contact me and ask about my styling services or come along to my next styling workshop.
Just like Game of Thrones (or should that be Game of Throws!) “Winter is coming” so stock up and get creative so your home will be ready for these long winter nights. However, this year you’ll be able to enjoy it with beautiful lighting and cosy cushions and throws.
